The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology is
one of the largest in the country. Areas of responsibility include: Teaching: The division is responsible for providing the predoctoral didactic and clinical curriculum in the techniques of dental radiography, radiographic interpretation, radiation physics and radiation biology. In addition the division provides post-graduate education in oral and maxillofacial radiology leading to a master’s degree and specialization in the field. The division also provides instruction in forensic dentistry at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Service: The radiology graduate clinic provides advanced
imaging and consultative radiology services for dental professionals locally
and nationally. Advanced imaging
techniques including panoramic, cephalometric, cone-beam tomography and head
and neck CT are available. In addition radiographic interpretation and
reports on each radiographic study are available. Participating clinicians
are certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial
Radiology. Referrals from dentists,
physicians and dental x-ray labs are welcome and may be obtained by calling
(210)-567-6349. Research: The division has an aggressive research program in the areas of digital imaging, 3D image analysis and biomedical modeling. Research activities include privately and publicly sponsored research to test products for regulatory approval and efficacy.
