Eleonore D. Paunovich, D.D.S., M.Sc., a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Dental Diagnostic Science, currently serves as Clinical Director for the Geriatric Division and course co-director for DIAG: 80141: Geriatrics. She received her undergraduate dental education from the Indiana University School of Dentistry. After a short experience in private practice she was recruited by the United States Air Force and spent eleven years on active duty as a general dentist. She was selected by the USAF to enter postdoctoral training in dental radiology and oral medicine, which she completed at the UTHSCSA. While on active duty, Dr. Paunovich served as Special Consultant in Dental Radiology to the Office of the USAF Assistant Surgeon and was an active faculty member in the USAF Advanced General Dentistry Residency Program. Upon separation from active duty Dr. Paunovich was awarded a fellowship at UTHSCSA in the Department of Medicine for the Geriatrics and Gerontology program. Following completion of this program, Dr. Paunovich was appointed Director of Clinical Oral Health Programs for Geriatrics and Extended Care at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, where she actively provides dental care for medically compromised inpatients and outpatients. In addition she provides necessary dental care to DVA nursing home, home healthcare, adult day care and hospice patients. Dr. Paunovich also serves as the Director of Dental Clinical Programs for the Geriatrics and Gerontology Program at UTHSCSA. In conjunction with her many clinical programs, Dr. Paunovich continues to bridge education with clinical experience through her continuing education programs in the areas of geriatrics, pharmacology, and special patient care management. She is actively involved in clinical research, with her focus on the impact of oral health and quality of life. She also continues to serve in the USAF Reserves and is the consultant to the Director of Advanced Education Programs in General Dentistry for the USAF.
