 Dr. Westbrook received a B.S. degree from Oregon State University. He earned his D.M.D. from the University of Oregon Dental School in 1970. He proudly served as a general dentist in the United States Air Force for the next thirty years. During his USAF career he completed a two year General Dentistry Residency and was awarded a M.S. in General Dentistry in 1974. Dr. Westbrook directed several one year AEGD training programs while on active duty. He was honored as the only USAF officer to serve as Director of both USAF two year General Dentistry Residency Programs at various times in his career. He served as special consultant in General Dentistry to the USAF Surgeon General from 1997-2000.

 Following retirement from the USAF, he completed a VA sponsored two year Research Fellowship as well as a two year Geriatric Dental Fellowship at Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Since 2005, Dr. Westbrook has limited his practice to clinical research in the Department of Dental Diagnostic Science at UTHSCSA. 

 His main research interests involve oral complications of Bone Marrow Transplantation, oral mucositis in cancer patients, orapharyngeal candidiasis and kaposi's sarcoma in HIV positive patient populations.
