Department of Dental Diagnostic Science The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dental School E-Mail: porteous@uthscsa.edu Office: 2.539U Phone: (210) 567-6334 FAX: (210) 567-6348 Dr. Porteous received her degree in dentistry from University College Cork, National University of Ireland, and a Master of Public Health degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Public Health at Houston. She is currently appointed as Associate Professor/Research in the Department of Dental Diagnostic Science, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School. She worked as a general dentist for seven years in private practice and one year in a public health clinic. She has held previous faculty appointments at UTHSCSA in the Department of Community Dentistry as Clinical Instructor (1995-1998), Assistant Professor (1998-2005), Associate Professor (2005-2007), and Infectious Diseases Fellow in the Department of General Dentistry (2000-2002). She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health and is a member of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, the International Association for Dental Research, and the Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures. She is a member of the American National Standards Institute/American Dental Association Standards Committee for Dental Products. Her research activities include clinical trials to test the efficacy of oral healthcare products, and infection control issues, with a particular focus on dental unit waterline contamination. Dr. Porteous has authored/co-authored many scholarly dental articles in peer-reviewed journals of national and international circulation, and has presented her research at many scientific meetings.
